About the Event
Workshop Description:This will be a 90 minute workshop. The presenter is Kevin Carter, ABSW member and Clinical Director of Uplift Center for Grieving Children.
When considering Black liberation, the challenges that we face as a people are significantly impacted by grief and loss. This presentation will explore a range of frameworks and practices that have influenced the clinical assessment, interventions and evaluation of African American life. Particular attention will be focused on challenging our ways of knowing and systems of thought around grief, loss and trauma while recognizing black experiences, values, perspectives and methods of problem solving as foundational. 1. Utilize the NABSW Code of Ethics as a foundational lens for influencing our approach to grief, loss and healing in our practices. 2. Explore traditional and contemporary frameworks and practices in assessment and intervention that can be utilized to support the humanity and strengths of people of African descent. 3. Develop continued awareness of and readiness to address grief and loss as individual practitioners, leaders of practice and co-creators of brave spaces for the care of our people.
